What does a TVI do?


A teacher of students with visual impairments (TVI) provides specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, helping them develop skills to access educational materials independently. They collaborate with other educators, therapists, and families to create individualized plans that address unique visual and promote academic and social success.

What does an O&M do?


An orientation and mobility (O&M) specialist is a certified professional who specializes in teaching students with visual impairments how to navigate their environments safely and independently. They provide training in orientation skills, such as using auditory and tactile cues to understand surroundings, as well as mobility skills, including how to use mobility aids like white canes. The ultimate goal for every O&M specialist is to promote safe and effective travel skills to their students.

What is IDEA?


The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), is a federal law that ensures children with disabilities receive free and appropriate education (FAPE) tailored to each student's needs. It mandates the provision of special education and related services to eligible students from birth through age 21.

What is the ADA?
